Current Trends in Applied Linguistics Research and Implementation
This book is a collection of theoretical and empirical studies based on principled data collection methods, data analysis and interpretation. It aspires to shed light on the diversity and interdisciplinarity of applied linguistics as contributors work with the data and perspectives that come from different fields such as psychology, sociology, education, language teaching, public policy, information technology and other areas of study. The contributors, applied linguists, implement a systematic language analysis based on the theories and multiple approaches that come from different fields in order to solve language-related problems. About the Contributors
Karpava Sviatlana
Dr Sviatlana Karpava is Lecturer in Applied Linguistics/TESOL and Linguistics Section Coordinator at the Department of English Studies, University of Cyprus, Co-coordinator of the Testing, Teaching and Translation Lab, Co-Director of the Discourse, Context and Society (DISCONSO). She received her PhD from the University of Cyprus. She is the Principal Investigator of the two internally funded (University of Cyprus) research projects: MIGDISCY- Migration, Discourse, Cyprus and Heritage Language Maintenance, Variation, and Change. Dr Karpava is the author of the book: Vulnerable Domains for Cross-Linguistic Influence in L2 Acquisition of Greek (Peter Lang, 2015) and the editor of the Handbook of Research on Multilingual and Multicultural Perspectives on Higher Education and Implications for Teaching (IGI Global, 2022). She has presented her research at numerous international conferences and published her research work in various peer-reviewed journals. Her area of research is applied linguistics, second/third language acquisition, bilingualism, multilingualism, sociolinguistics, teaching and education.
Papadopoulos Isaak
Isaak Papadopoulos is an assistant professor in the Department of Early Childhood Education and Care at the International Hellenic University. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education (UoWM) and a Master’s Degree in Educational Sciences with an emphasis on teaching language to students (University of Degli Studi Roma Tre in Italy). His doctoral thesis was pursued at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and it was related to rhetoric and persuasive communication of young Greek students, while his postdoctoral research (Department of Primary Education, University of Ioannina) concerned language teaching and communication of young learners in classes with linguistic and cultural diversity. Regarding his academic teaching experience, he has taught at various universities both nationally (Hellenic Open University) and internationally (European University Cyprus, UNICAF University, Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University). His research and teaching interests focus on language teaching to children, bilingualism/multilingualism as well as teaching reading/writing skills in kindergarten and pre-primary school. He has presented his research at international and national conferences. He has published four academic books, edited eight academic volumes, and contributed to books/collective volumes, as well as articles in international journals and conference proceedings.
